The Position

The Senior Tax Analyst supports the company’s Canadian tax function through the preparation and coordination of corporate income tax and mining tax compliance, tax provision and reporting, tax research, and audit support. The role also contributes to forecasting, transaction support, and cross-functional tax matters, while helping improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the tax function through process improvement and automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and support Canadian income tax reporting and provision, including current and deferred taxes, valuation allowances, uncertain tax positions, and effective tax rate (ETR) calculations under IAS 12.
  • Coordinate and prepare direct Canadian income tax compliance, including T2, T106, T1134, and other tax filings for all relevant entities.
  • Coordinate and prepare all relevant provincial mining tax returns.
  • Liaise with tax authorities, manage responses to audit queries, and support the resolution of tax controversies.
  • Support the preparation of forecasts of income tax expense and cash taxes, ensuring alignment with business plans and supporting management reporting.
  • Support surplus calculations in collaboration with external advisors.
  • Assist the tax director on transactions, including due diligence, structuring, and integration of acquired companies, from a Canadian income tax and tax accounting standpoint.
  • Monitor and assess Canadian tax and accounting legislative developments and advise on potential impacts to the Company’s tax profile and financial statements.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of process improvements, including automation and other technology-enabled solutions.
  • Collaborate with Corporate and site finance teams to ensure accurate, timely, and well-supported tax reporting.

Skills and Qualifications

  • CPA designation (or equivalent) strongly preferred.
  • Completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Program preferred.
  • 5-7 years of Canadian corporate tax experience with strong knowledge of the Income Tax Act and working knowledge of IFRS. Mining experience is considered an asset.
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Excel emphasis); experience with ERP/financial systems (SAP an asset); excellent documentation and organizational skills to maintain audit-ready files.
  • Strong oral and written communication, collaboration, and presentation skills; effective at working cross-functionally (Finance, Legal, and operations).
  • Experience in a public company environment and/or Big 4 (or equivalent) is strongly preferred.
  • An interest in process improvement, automation, and technology-enabled tax solutions.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Company contributions and matching into a Defined Contribution Pension Plan; and
  • Annual total compensation of CAD$105,000 to CAD$150,000 (including annual bonus eligibility).

Workplace Conditions

  • Corporate head office, located in Toronto, Ontario with occasional travel (Timmins and abroad); and
  • Attention to work issues in the evening or on the weekend.
