The Position

Reporting to the Finance Superintendent Capital, the Senior Project Accountant is responsible for the financial oversight, reporting, forecasting and governance of capital projects throughout their lifecycle. The role supports project execution, business case development, capital investment decisions, and capital governance processes. Working closely with Project Managers, Engineering, Procurement, Operations, and Finance teams, the Senior Project Accountant acts as the primary financial lead for assigned projects, ensuring projects are appropriately structured, accurately forecasted, properly governed, and executed within approved funding limits and Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) approvals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain capital projects and Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) within SAP and related systems to support project planning, cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Support project setup activities including project structures, cost collection points, capital classifications, and reporting hierarchies.
  • Manage financial reporting and monitoring of assigned capital projects.
  • Monitor expenditures against approved budgets and AFEs.
  • Develop project forecasts and life-to-complete estimates.
  • Analyze economic evaluations including Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Payback Period, Sensitivity Analysis, and Scenario Analysis.
  • Support business case development and financial evaluation of growth and sustaining capital projects.
  • Support review of engineering cost estimates throughout the project lifecycle, from concept development through execution and project closeout.
  • Track project commitments, contracts, purchase orders, and contingencies to ensure effective cost control.
  • Prepare monthly project reports, variance analysis, accruals, reconciliations, and management commentary.
  • Support AFE governance including project approvals, amendments, spending authorization compliance, capitalization, and project closeout activities.
  • Partner with Project Managers, Engineering, Procurement, Operations, and Finance teams to support project decision-making and financial performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to project controls, reporting, forecasting, and capital governance processes.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Engineering Economics, or related field.
  • CPA designation or progress toward CPA designation preferred.
  • 5+ years of project accounting, capital accounting, project controls, FP&A, or related finance experience.
  • Experience with capital budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and investment analysis.
  • Experience performing economic evaluations using NPV, IRR, payback, and related financial metrics.
  • Working knowledge of engineering cost estimates and project development from concept through execution is considered an asset.
  • Experience creating and maintaining project structures and Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) within SAP or similar ERP systems preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills including financial modeling, Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and analytical reporting.
  • Experience with SAP Finance and SAP Project Systems (PS) preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
    Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Workplace Conditions

Timmins, Ontario (On-Site) or Toronto, Ontario (Hybrid)

For candidates based in Toronto, regular travel to the Porcupine operation will be required, including travel during month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and key operational review periods

Competitive total compensation package including:

  • Annual total compensation of CAD$114,112 to CAD$140,962 (including annual bonus eligibility).
