The Position

Provide technical leadership and clear direction for open-pit mine planning and engineering to support the safe, timely and value-focused redevelopment of Dome Mine. Develop robust plans grounded in verified data and demonstrated operating performance; identify opportunities to improve project value, mine recovery and resource utilization; and strengthen engineering capability through coaching, guidance, technical review and knowledge transfer.

Key Responsibilities

Promoting Safety and Sustainability

  • Adapt a zero-harm approach with engineering design 
  • Promote innovation and continuous improvement in safety by reviewing existing engineering designs and new designs
  • Review plans and designs for regulatory compliance and compliance to Company policies, procedures and standards
  • Promote and adhere to Company environmental and sustainability policies 

Mine Planning and Mine Design

  • Lead the open-pit mining engineering discipline for the Dome Open Pit Re-Development project from study and option analysis through execution planning.
  • Develop, evaluate and document mine planning scenarios, including pit optimization, phase and pushback design, production scheduling, fleet requirements, productivity assumptions, waste-dump and stockpile strategy, haulage, mine infrastructure and operating constraints.
  • Prepare integrated life-of-mine, annual and shorter-range plans, as required, with clear assumptions, risks, dependencies, decision points and performance targets.
  • Collaborate with geology, geotechnical, hydrogeology, metallurgy, environment, permitting, infrastructure, operations and finance teams to produce an integrated and executable mine plan.
  • Incorporate current geotechnical design criteria, geological interpretation, model confidence, water-management requirements and operating experience into designs and schedules.
  • Establish and maintain planning inputs, design criteria, scheduling logic and quality-control processes; coordinate appropriate independent or peer reviews.
  • Provide practical engineering guidance to operating and project teams to improve plan compliance, productivity, recovery and effective use of equipment and infrastructure.
  • Identify, quantify and champion opportunities that improve project value, reduce risk, increase recoverable value or strengthen execution confidence.

Strategic Planning

  • Ensure Dome OP is appropriately represented in the overall Discovery strategic plan
  • Participate in Business Planning exercise at the senior management level, providing guidance on options to increase value and optimize use of resources
  • Provide support to exploration teams to ensure targets are appropriately scheduled and incorporated into the mine plan
  • Support mineral reserve and resource estimation, reporting and governance activities by providing mine designs, schedules, modifying factors and technical documentation as required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario (PEO) and in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario, or eligible to obtain Ontario licensure within an agreed timeframe.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive open pit mine engineering and operational experience, including significant responsibility for mine design and production scheduling.
  • Ability to apply engineering techniques as they apply to ore body evaluation and mine operations.
  • Able to impact and influence to gain the alignment across multiple teams
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience, including coordination of multidisciplinary work, review of engineering deliverables and coaching or mentoring of technical staff.
  • Experience supporting prefeasibility, feasibility, detailed engineering or execution planning for an open-pit development, redevelopment or major expansion project.
