The Position

Reporting to the Superintendent Finance within the Finance team, the Cost Management Accountant is responsible for the preparation, analysis, reporting, and control of operating costs across the site. The role supports budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, month-end reporting, and operational decision-making.

As a key finance business partner, the Cost Management Accountant works closely with operational leaders to provide meaningful financial insight into site performance, improve cost visibility, and support accountability for departmental spending. The role is responsible for conducting detailed Price, Volume, and Efficiency (PVE) analysis on major cost drivers and identifying opportunities for cost optimization and continuous improvement.

While the role may be based either in Timmins or Toronto, frequent engagement with site leadership and operational teams is essential. Candidates based outside Timmins must be willing to travel to site regularly, particularly during month-end close, forecasting cycles, budget preparation, and cost review meetings as required

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze monthly operating cost reports including variance analysis and management commentary.
  • Perform Price, Volume and Efficiency (PVE) variance analysis for labour, contractors, fuel, power, maintenance, consumables and production costs.
  • Monitor departmental spending against budget and forecast.
  • Facilitate cost review meetings with operational leaders.
  • Develop cost-per-tonne and operational KPI reporting.
  • Support annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
  • Prepare accruals, journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Identify cost savings and process improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain internal controls and reporting integrity.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related field.
  • CPA designation or progress toward CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of finance, FP&A, cost accounting or financial analysis experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills and SAP experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with operational stakeholders in both on-site and remote environments.

Workplace Conditions

Timmins, Ontario (On-Site) or Toronto, Ontario (Hybrid)

For candidates based in Toronto, regular travel to the Porcupine operation will be required, including travel during month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and key operational review periods.

Additional Information

Competitive total compensation package including:

  • Annual total compensation of CAD$114,112 to CAD$140,962 (including annual bonus eligibility).
