Apprentice Heavy Duty Equipment Technician

Purpose
The successful applicant will assist in the inspection, repair, and maintenance of underground mobile mining equipment. Working under the guidance of experienced Journeyperson Heavy Duty Equipment Technicians, apprentices will develop the skills and knowledge required to safely perform maintenance and repairs on structural, mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems while progressing through their apprenticeship.
Responsibilities
- Assist in troubleshooting, disassembling, repairing, and performing predictive and preventive maintenance on underground mobile mining equipment.
- Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems using hand and power tools.
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure all work meets manufacturer specifications.
- Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance on equipment.
Service attachments and working tools such as blades, ploughs, winches, and side booms. - Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Corporate and Discovery Porcupine Environmental Regulations, and Safety and Sustainability Standards.
- Work collaboratively with others to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
- Demonstrate initiative, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills.
- Provide and maintain personal tools required for the position.
- Assist in other work areas as operationally required.
Training and Education
- Registered Apprentice Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (or equivalent recognized trade).
- Applicants at all levels of their apprenticeship are encouraged to apply.
- Previous underground/surface mining experience is considered an asset.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, computer, and written skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn and develop technical competencies.
